Fun:List of Great Email Incidents

From Wonkpedia

This page is a list of Great Email Incidents that have crippled entire sectors of military and/or government organizations. While we would like to think that large organizations have a minimum degree of competence, the existence of this list would indicate otherwise.

Obviously many more of these happen than are publicly discussed, so you know it's bad once it hits twitter.[1]

Seems to have impacted:

  • Air Force
  • DOD Contractors? ("[Non-DoD Source]" listed in email chain on Twitter screenshot)[2]

According to a tweet (source unknown),[3] the email contents was as follows (some specifics redacted):

We have a Logo appearing on our screen from Air Forces Cyber, xxxth Cyberspace Wing and xxxst Network Operations Sq. It states: "ATTENTION: This workspace will be quarantined <date>. Please contact your local CFP to upgrade this device to the latest OS Build (xxxxx or higher). We are here at <location> and have nothing to do with all those organizations. However, we are unable to get rid of that logo which of course is totally outdated. Perhaps some of you sent this over to us by mistake. Please remove this logo, as we are unable to do anything with this horrible green statement."

(editor's note: perhaps they mean on-screen watermark and not logo?)
